Whetstone
Proposal for a new detached family house overlooking sports grounds. The form began to develop in response to the area, comprising traditional gabled houses. The house is split into three distinct elements; two gable ended brick forms joined by lightweight glass link clad which is clad with a timber screen.
Collaborative project with HEAT architecture - internationally renowned design studio with a brief to design comfortable family home. Having assessed the physical grain and social pattern of the area, the most appropriate building type for this site is a detached two storey single family house, in order to reflect the local context.
The layout and related openings on the facades of the house have been carefully designed to maximise the amount of natural daylight inside the house, whilst maintaining privacy for both the future occupants and the adjacent neighbours.
Modern building technologies were combined with the highest quality materials including hardwood timber screening and grey brick constructed elements with an abundance of glass throughout.
Since starting our project we have commissioned several other schemes with Building Designs. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend them and wouldn't think twice using them if doing another project.
